Worum geht es in Cleopatra?

Cleopatras Macht steht vor dem Ende. Durch eine enge Bindung zum Römischen Reich versucht sie, an den alten Ruhm anzuknüpfen und ihre Position wieder zu stärken. Julius Cäsar verliebt sich in sie und Cleopatra bringt seinen Sohn zur Welt. Kurz darauf wird Cäsar ermordet und Cleopatra muss zurück nach Ägypten fliehen. Ihr folgt Cäsars treuer General Marc Anton und schon bald verbindet ihn und Cleopatra mehr als nur gegenseitige Hochachtung. Doch dem Ränkespiel und den Intrigen Roms sind beide nicht gewachsen.
