Worum geht es in RahXephon?

Wir schreiben das Jahr 2012. Die Bevölkerung der Welt beträgt knappe 6 Millionen Menschen. Amerika, Europa, Asien, Afrika, Australien - alle wurden sie ausradiert. Nur Tokio und einige kleinere Teile Japans existieren noch. Als Tokio überraschend angegriffen wird, ist Kamina Ayato plötzlich auf sich alleine gestellt. Geführt von der mysteriösen Mishima Reika stößt er tief unter Tokio auf einen geheimen Tempel und den Ursprung RahXephons, aber was hat es mit diesem riesigen Mecha auf sich? Was hat gerade Ayato mit ihm zu tun und welche Geheimnisse verbirgt Reika noch?
